Music

At King Edwin Primary School we follow the National Curriculum for Music.

The teaching of Music:

  • Develops children’s love and appreciation of different styles of music, talking confidently about their preferences.

  • Enables children to recognise the role and importance of music in their lives.

  • Teaches children to talk about the works of a variety of composers and musicians, recognising their contribution to the world of music.

  • Encourages children to use their voices expressively and creatively to sing individually and collaboratively.

  • Provides experiences with different instruments, improvising and composing their own music independently and as part of a group.

The National Curriculum for Music can be found here.

Charanga

We use the Charanga scheme of work to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum. The scheme exposes children to a wide range of music genres and provides regular opportunities for singing and performing with musical instruments.

Further information about the scheme can be found using the following link.
